Overview
- Justice N. Senthilkumar issued an ex-parte order restraining Mythri Movie Makers from exhibiting, screening, selling, distributing, publishing or broadcasting the film with the disputed tracks on any platform, including OTT.
- The songs in question are ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’ (Sakalakala Vallavan, 1982), ‘En Jodi Manja Kuruvi’ (Vikram, 1986) and ‘Otha Ruba Tharen’ (Nattupura Pattu, 1996).
- Ilaiyaraaja’s suit asserts first ownership and alleges the tracks were used and altered without consent or royalties, seeking removal, Rs 5 crore in compensation, a public apology and a full revenue accounting.
- The producers said they obtained NOCs from music labels but did not specify which entities or the scope of permissions, a response the court described as “bald.”
- The temporary injunction remains in force until further hearing, leaving the producers to substantiate authorisations or consider removing or replacing the music in a film that opened strongly after its April 10 release.
