Overview
- Chief Minister Mohan Yadav launched the Vikramaditya Vedic Clock and its mobile app at his official residence in Bhopal on September 1, with a digital display installed at the main gate.
- The clock follows the Indian ‘Kaal Ganana’ system that counts a day from sunrise to the next sunrise in 30 equal parts, alongside simultaneous displays of IST, GMT and Vedic time.
- Event materials and officials described it as the first clock built on this system and said it also visualizes planetary positions and solar and lunar eclipses.
- The companion app offers Panchang data spanning over 7,000 years from 3179 BCE, covering tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, festivals, daily muhurta details, and precise sunrise and sunset times.
- Available in more than 189 languages, the app includes weather information, GMT and IST readouts, and alerts for religious observances, following a public outreach rally and participation by BJP leaders, the inventor and academic figures.
