Madhya Pradesh Reverses Halt on 355 Bridge Projects, Establishes Technical Review Panel

Work on the schemes will resume only after a technical committee completes its safety review following the suspension of eight engineers.

Madhya Pradesh Plans to Cancel 355 ROB Designs

Overview

  • The PWD initially scrapped general arrangement drawings for 355 flyovers, ROBs and elevated corridors, including 140 under-construction projects valued at Rs 1,200 crore, before revoking the directive as a mistake.
  • A high-level technical committee comprising PWD, MPRDC, railway and municipal officials will examine every design detail from alignment and superelevation to speed limits and safety norms.
  • Eight engineers, including two chief engineers, remain suspended under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s inquiry into the 90-degree bend at Bhopal’s Aishbagh ROB and the twin-turn Z-shaped curve in Indore.
  • The construction agency and design consultant responsible for the flawed blueprints have been blacklisted and must correct designs before any project inauguration.
  • All state engineers must take new departmental exams and complete training modules under IRC and MoRTH guidelines after August 15, with future postings tied to their performance.
