Overview

  • Starting Diwali 2025, 1.27 crore women will receive ₹1,500 per month under the Ladli Behna Scheme, up from ₹1,250.
  • Beneficiaries will receive a one-time ₹250 supplement on Raksha Bandhan.
  • The programme debuted in June 2023 with ₹1,000 monthly and was raised to ₹1,250 in September 2023.
  • The 2025-26 budget sets aside ₹18,669 crore for the scheme, which is credited with helping the BJP secure all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh in 2024 and has inspired similar initiatives in Maharashtra, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Delhi.
  • Further increments are scheduled for 2026 and 2027 to fulfill the government’s pledge of ₹3,000 per month by the 2028 assembly elections.
