Madhya Pradesh Livestock Census Flags 9 Districts With No Donkeys as Top Counts Conflict

Some figures remain provisional pending the Centre's final livestock report.

  • The latest state tally counts 3,052 donkeys and records nine tribal-dominated districts with none.
  • The districts with zero donkeys are Annuppur, Balaghat, Damoh, Dindori, Harda, Mandla, Niwari, Seoni and Umaria.
  • Narmadapuram is reported as having the most donkeys, but published figures conflict at 335 (Deccan Chronicle), 33 (Free Press Journal) and 332 (Times of India).
  • The census puts Madhya Pradesh’s total livestock at 3,75,92,771, led by 1,57,48,498 cattle, 1,09,30,750 goats and 1,02,48,915 buffaloes.
  • Donkey numbers have fallen 94% since 1997, dropping from 49,289 to 3,052, according to the latest comparisons reported by Times of India.
