Overview
- An intense Nautapa heatwave has pushed daytime highs across the state well above normal with Khajuraho peaking near 46.5°C, and many districts remain under IMD orange or yellow heat alerts.
- The Meteorological Centre in Bhopal says a western disturbance and a long trough have produced evening thunderstorms, gusty winds and isolated downpours in divisional pockets such as Jabalpur and Sagar.
- The IMD has issued specific thunderstorm, rain and hail warnings for numerous districts and forecasts storms from May 30 through June 1 that are expected to reduce heatwave severity for a short period.
- Local observations reported recent hail, lightning and light to heavy rain in areas including Morena, Gwalior, Damoh, Seoni and Deori, where the highest recorded localized rainfall was about 3.0 mm.
- Officials urge simple precautions for vulnerable people such as avoiding mid-day sun, staying hydrated, and seeking shelter from lightning and strong winds because brief storms can bring sudden hazards even as they cool the air.
