Overview
- Chief Minister Mohan Yadav met officials, BJP leaders and farmer representatives, then ordered departments to issue cancellation directions for the Simhastha land-pooling scheme.
- The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh called off its November 18 "Ghera Dalo, Dera Dalo" agitation after the government announced the decision.
- The scrapped proposal sought permanent infrastructure for the 2028 Simhastha across roughly 2,300–2,400 hectares with an estimated outlay of about ₹2,000 crore, replacing the event’s traditional temporary arrangements.
- Ujjain authorities had earlier said no land would be taken without farmers’ consent and indicated sewage and road works would proceed even as land pooling was on hold.
- Farmers remain cautious because the Ujjain Development Authority issued notifications and acquired some plots, and legal provisions allow revocation or modification rather than simple postponement under the Urban Development Act.
