Overview
- The state issued an immediate, statewide prohibition that bars manufacture, processing, storage, transport, distribution and sale of analogue paneer and similar imitation dairy products following a directive from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
- The ban was announced on Wednesday and enforcement began the same day with district food teams ordered to inspect factories, seize suspected stock and send samples for laboratory testing.
- Authorities cited health and labeling concerns, saying analogue paneer is made with vegetable fats, starches and emulsifiers that lower protein content and are often sold without proper FSSAI labeling.
- Officials warned of seizure, destruction and legal action for violations, and Indore food teams seized about 450 kg of suspected analogue paneer during an early raid.
- The decision follows similar bans in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh and aims to block possible mass dumping into Madhya Pradesh while protecting restaurants, caterers and local dairy producers ahead of festival demand.
