Overview
- The first India-built C295 completed its maiden test flight on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and has moved into post-production testing ahead of certification.
- The aircraft is the first of 40 C295s to be manufactured in India under the 2021 Rs 21,935 crore contract that calls for 56 total aircraft, with 16 delivered in fly-away condition from Spain.
- Final assembly and testing are taking place at the Tata‑Airbus Final Assembly Line in Vadodara, the first private-sector military aircraft plant of its kind in India inaugurated in October 2024.
- Airbus and Tata say more than 85% of the C295’s structural work will be done domestically, with about 13,000 parts made by Tata, Airbus and a network of Indian MSMEs and 37 onboarded suppliers.
- The C295 is a medium tactical transport designed for troop and cargo movement, medical evacuation and short take-off/landing operations, and its induction is expected to phase out older IAF transports as deliveries and certification proceed later this year.
