• President Macron told Radio FG he supports candidacy for French Touch to join the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list.
• He cited Germany’s 2023 recognition of Berlin techno as a model and asserted that France invented electro music.
• French Touch originated in the 1990s with acts such as Daft Punk, Justice, Air, Laurent Garnier and Jean-Michel Jarre and achieved global influence.
• France has secured UNESCO status for diverse cultural practices, including baguette baking, French equestrian traditions, the perfumery of Grasse, Breton fest-noz, Guadeloupean gwoka and Réunionnais maloya.
• The Ministry of Culture will now prepare and submit a formal application to UNESCO to recognize French Touch as intangible heritage.
