Overview

  • India’s Prime Minister’s Office said President Emmanuel Macron initiated the call and briefed Narendra Modi on recent Washington meetings involving US, European leaders and Ukraine.
  • Macron said the two coordinated positions on the Ukraine war to pursue a just and lasting peace with strong guarantees for Ukraine and Europe’s security.
  • Modi reiterated India’s support for peaceful dialogue and the early restoration of stability in both Ukraine and West Asia, including Gaza.
  • The leaders reviewed progress across trade, defence, civil nuclear cooperation, technology and energy, and agreed to mark 2026 as a bilateral Year of Innovation.
  • They agreed to work toward the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in 2026, coordinate for France’s G7 and India’s BRICS presidencies, and push economic ties including Macron’s backing for an early IndiaEU FTA.
