This agreement triggers detailed conservation of the 11th-century tapestry paired with Sutton Hoo treasures during Bayeux museum’s renovation.

  • On July 9, President Macron and Prime Minister Starmer will formalize the loan agreement, marking the first time the Bayeux Tapestry leaves France since World War II.
  • The nearly 70-metre embroidery will be exhibited at the British Museum from September 2026 to June 2027 before returning for William the Conqueror’s millennium celebrations.
