Overview

  • Only four Intel-based models—the 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro, 13-inch 2020 MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt ports, 27-inch 2020 iMac and 2019 Mac Pro—remain compatible with macOS Tahoe.
  • Apple confirmed that macOS27, due in 2026, will run exclusively on Macs with M1 or newer Apple Silicon chips.
  • Intel-based Macs running Tahoe will receive security updates without new features until fall 2028.
  • Rosetta2 support will continue through macOS27 but will be pared back in macOS28, limited to unmaintained legacy games.
  • macOS Tahoe introduces the unified Liquid Glass interface across Apple platforms, and Apple urges developers to release Apple Silicon–native app versions.
