  • Apple will brand its next major Mac operating system macOS26 under a new scheme aligning all platforms to year-based version numbers.
  • Pre-release builds indicate compatibility is restricted to MacBook Pro 2019 or later, iMac 2020 or newer, Mac Pro 2019 or later, Mac mini M1 and later, Mac Studio, and MacBook Air M1 or later.
  • Models currently supported by macOS Sequoia but omitted from macOS26 include the 2018 Intel MacBook Pro, 2017 iMac Pro, 2018 Mac mini and the 2020 Intel MacBook Air.
  • The update is testing a substantial interface redesign featuring visionOS-inspired 3D translucent materials and rounded window corners.
  • Apple plans to officially announce macOS26 at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9 with the first developer beta available immediately after the keynote.
