macOS Tahoe Adds Built-In Recovery Assistant for Startup Problems

Apple’s support guidance details an auto-launching tool that diagnoses startup issues.

Overview

  • On certain error behaviors, a Mac may restart on its own and open Recovery Assistant, which guides users through a simple Continue flow.
  • After running, the utility reports one of three results: recovered successfully, no known issues found, or unable to recover.
  • If the Mac starts normally afterward, users may be prompted to recover iCloud data in System Settings.
  • The tool requires an internet connection to fetch the latest software information, with captive portals and 802.1X networks not supported.
  • Recovery Assistant can also be opened from the Utilities menu in macOS Recovery, and unresolved cases should proceed to additional troubleshooting steps.
