Overview
- On the House floor, Rep. Sara Jacobs said filler, breast augmentation and Botox can be forms of gender-affirming care and noted many colleagues have received such procedures.
- Rep. Nancy Mace, who was not recognized to speak, yelled at Jacobs as presiding officers called the chamber to order, and Jacobs’ request to strike Mace’s words failed because Mace was out of order.
- Mace later posted on X offering Jacobs a surgeon for a “nose job,” while Jacobs replied that Mace should stop targeting trans kids and seek help.
- Antisemitism watchdogs and the Jewish Democratic Council of America condemned Mace’s “nose job” comment as antisemitic because Jacobs is Jewish.
- The clash occurred during debate on Mace-led amendments to the defense policy bill that seek to limit TRICARE coverage for gender-affirming care and to base access to certain facilities on sex assigned at birth.
