MAAC Rebrands as Metro Conference

Conference leaders say the change is intended to end long-running confusion with the Mid-American Conference.

Overview

  • The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced Thursday that it will change its public name to the Metro Conference, effective July 1, 2026.
  • The league is encouraging the shorthand “The Metro” and unveiled a new, simpler logo and pared-down color palette for the rebrand.
  • Commissioner Travis Tellitocci said the move was driven by a desire to remove persistent name confusion with the Mid-American Conference and to position the league for the future.
  • MAAC officials said they completed a comprehensive trademark search, worked closely with legal counsel, and hired Joe Bosack & Co. to lead a stakeholder-driven branding process that included listening sessions, name-testing, and multiple rounds of logo exploration.
  • Member schools, including Siena University, will compete under the Metro Conference name beginning July 1, 2026, and the conference noted it reviewed the earlier 1975–1995 Metro Conference during its trademark analysis.
