M62 Eastbound Overnight Closures Begin Tonight at Junction 24 for Culvert Works

The phased programme at Ainley Top targets a drainage culvert to extend its service life by about a century.

Overview

  • National Highways will close the M62 eastbound overnight between junctions 24 and 25 from 8pm to 6am on August 28 and 29, with fully signed diversions in place.
  • Drivers are instructed not to rely on satnav, with separate diversion routes provided for vehicles above and below 4.8m in height.
  • From September 1 to November 21, narrow lanes and a 50mph limit will be installed on the eastbound carriageway to support ongoing works.
  • Three full overnight closures in both directions are scheduled for October 10, 11 and 12 to crane‑lift the culvert liner into position.
  • The project involves re‑lining and repairing the culvert, exposing and reinstating chambers and adding a new downstream chamber, with possible noise and short‑notice changes flagged on National Highways’ live updates.
