Overview

• National Highways reported a full eastbound closure near Pontefract from around 2.40am after a vehicle overturned.
• West Yorkshire Police and National Highways traffic officers are on scene and have urged motorists to avoid the area.
• Congestion on approach reached about two miles with roughly 20 minutes of extra delay, and traffic is being diverted via the A639, A645 and A162 to rejoin at junction 33.
• In a separate incident on Sunday, a crash closed the M6 northbound between junctions 15 and 16 in Staffordshire before lanes later reopened.
• Police said a driver fled the M6 scene across fields; air support assisted the search and officers said forensic evidence will be used to identify the suspect.
