Overview

  • At around 12:35 am on July 12, a man in his 20s was struck on the M62 westbound near Milnrow and taken to hospital with serious injuries; no arrests have been made and investigations continue.
  • Shortly after 2:30 pm, a collision between a car and a motorbike on the anti-clockwise M60 between junctions 25 and 24 prompted an air ambulance response and left the motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, with life-threatening injuries.
  • The M62 was cleared and reopened by 3 am, and the M60 reopened by around 11 pm, with marked diversions contributing to delays of up to 30 minutes for commuters and tens of thousands of Oasis concertgoers.
  • Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is examining both crashes and has issued appeals for witnesses and dash-cam footage to aid the ongoing enquiries.
  • National Highways and local agencies worked with emergency services to manage traffic and clear the routes during peak summer travel linked to the Heaton Park concerts.
