Overview
- National Highways said the M60 closed in both directions between J15 (M61/Swinton Interchange) and J16 (A666/Kearsley) after a serious collision involving a car and a motorbike around 6.30pm.
- Greater Manchester Police carried out collision investigation work as the North West Ambulance Service attended, with officials warning the closure would last several hours and diversion routes put in place.
- Traffic caught within the closure began to be released at about 8.15pm, but severe queues built toward Prestwich, Farnworth and Worsley with knock-on delays on the M61 and A666.
- Earlier on Sunday, a vehicle fire briefly stopped M25 clockwise traffic between J22 and J23 as Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue worked the scene, with National Highways warning of delays before conditions began to improve.
- Across West Yorkshire, the weekend saw additional disruption on the M62, including a westbound crash near Huddersfield that temporarily held traffic, an eastbound collision near Ferrybridge that left queues with lanes open, and a Brighouse vehicle fire that closed two lanes.
