M6 Remains Closed for Police Probe as UK Motorways Reopen After Weekend Crashes

National Highways has restored flow on major routes from Norfolk to Greater Manchester following multi-vehicle collisions, with traffic officers still managing diversions around the M6 shutdown.

Overview

  • National Highways reopened the A11 near Wymondham by mid-afternoon Monday after barrier repairs and clearance of a six-vehicle crash that had shut the road since early Sunday.
  • All southbound lanes on the M5 at J4A–J5 and J16–J17 were cleared and reopened on Monday, ending seven-mile queues and delays of up to 70 minutes from separate multi-vehicle collisions.
  • The M62 eastbound between J11 and J12 returned to full operation after three lanes were closed due to an afternoon crash that had caused 50-minute holdups.
  • Clockwise traffic on the M25 between J9 and J10 and on the M60 between J5 and J6 has also resumed following crashes that halted vehicles and created delays of up to 90 and 30 minutes respectively.
  • Lancashire Police and National Highways Traffic Officers remain on scene at the M6 between J29 and J30, where both carriageways are shut under a police-led investigation with diversion routes in place.
