M6 Northbound Closed Between Rugby and Coventry After Serious Collision

A police investigation is keeping the northbound carriageway shut for hours.

Overview

  • National Highways says the M6 is closed northbound between J1 (Rugby) and J2 (Coventry/M69) after a serious crash, with Warwickshire Police on scene, signed diversions via the A426–A5–M69 in place, and traffic within the initial closure now cleared.
  • On the M5 southbound between J4 and J4a, a multi-vehicle collision involving HGVs and a motorcycle left the rider with potentially serious injuries and caused roughly five miles of queues and up to 80 minutes of delays.
  • The M42 southbound between J11 and J10 had a lane closed earlier, generating about five miles of congestion and adding roughly an hour to journey times, according to National Highways: West Midlands.
  • All lanes on the M6 at the Thelwall Viaduct (J21) reopened after a morning multi-vehicle crash, though drivers faced residual delays of up to around 65 minutes.
  • Further disruption continued across the network, including a new closure on the M66 near Ramsbottom due to flooding and a crash early Tuesday, after separate incidents on the M4 in South Wales and a vehicle fire on the M62 on Monday.
