M40 Southbound Closed Between Warwick and Gaydon After Lorry Crash Causing Major Damage

Emergency barrier and road repairs are keeping the Warwickshire stretch shut following a lorry crossing into oncoming traffic.

Overview

  • National Highways reports a heavy goods vehicle crossed from the northbound side into the southbound carriageway and struck two vehicles, severely damaging the central reservation and road surface.
  • West Midlands Ambulance Service treated six patients at the scene and took four to hospital, including a man and a woman with serious injuries.
  • The southbound closure between J15 and J12 remains in place for emergency barrier replacement and resurfacing, with delays expected into the afternoon and local diversions in use.
  • Warwickshire Police said all trapped traffic has been released and warned that abusive or false 999 calls about delays may be investigated for wasting police time.
  • Travel disruption is compounded by a separate M4 eastbound closure between J38 and J37 for emergency works with traffic diverted via the A48, and an earlier M6 lane closure near Coventry where no hospital treatment was required.
