M4 Partially Reopens After Lorry Fire as A1(M) and A12 Closures Stretch Into Friday

Cleanup and resurfacing after fires and fuel spills are prolonging closures.

Overview

  • The M4 westbound between J7 (Slough) and J8/9 (Maidenhead) has reopened after an HGV blaze, but lane 1 remains closed due to burn damage and ongoing repair work.
  • The A1(M) southbound remains shut from J36 (Doncaster) to J35 (Rotherham) after two lorries collided and spilled a substantial amount of diesel, with recovery and carriageway cleaning underway and a signed diversion in place.
  • The A12 is closed in both directions between J12 and J15 near Ingatestone for a police‑led serious collision, with delays reported and significant congestion on local routes.
  • Earlier disruptions on the M4 eastbound in Berkshire from an oil spill and on the M6 northbound between J8 and J9 have cleared; two men from the M6 crash were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.
  • Additional incidents, including an A14 lorry fire requiring resurfacing and separate vehicle fires and crashes on the M60, M58 and M25, contributed to temporary holds and regional delays.
