Overview
- Wiltshire Police say a 32-year-old man died and another man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash around 02:00 on the M4 eastbound between J17 and J18 near Leigh Delamere.
- The M4 eastbound remains closed between J17 and J18 with National Highways diverting traffic via the A46, A420 and A350, and officials have signalled a prolonged closure into the afternoon.
- A major collision near Meadowhall closed the M1 in both directions earlier, with an air ambulance landing on the carriageway and multi-agency responders on scene before partial reopenings and ongoing delays.
- Separate incidents added heavy congestion across the network, including an M25 clockwise crash that left 11 miles of queues after lanes 3 and 4 reopened, and a cleared M62 eastbound accident between J28 and J29.
- Elsewhere, the M6 southbound closed between J4A and J3 for a police-led incident involving a seriously injured pedestrian, and the M65 westbound entry slip at J4 remained shut for hours after an overturned HGV.
