M4 and M60 Shut After Serious Crashes as UK Motorway Disruption Spreads

Authorities expect lengthy disruption following overnight motorway collisions.

Overview

  • South Wales Police closed the M4 westbound between Junction 37 (Pyle) and Junction 38 (Margam) after a serious crash involving an overturned lorry, with the force saying the closure is expected to remain for some time and urging drivers to avoid the area.
  • The M60 clockwise is shut between Junctions 6 (Sale) and 9 (Trafford Park) following a serious collision, with National Highways implementing local diversions and reporting delays of around 50 minutes.
  • Traffic on the M25 clockwise near Leatherhead was briefly halted between Junctions 8 and 9 after a crash, with the hold lifted and queues now easing according to Surrey Live and INRIX.
  • On Wednesday, the M11 southbound between Junction 6 and Junction 4 suffered severe disruption after a serious collision near Junction 5, with all running lanes requiring resurfacing and specialist contractors called in as delays reached around 90 minutes and congestion fed onto the M25.
  • The broader network remains under pressure, with the A417 at Birdlip Hill still closed after Tuesday’s serious two‑vehicle crash and a separate M4 westbound incident near Bristol leaving the stretch between Junctions 19 and 20 partially blocked earlier this morning.
