M25, M4 and M5 Disruption Eases After Multiple Incidents, Including Fatal Lorry Emergency

National Highways reports reopenings but warns of residual delays.

Overview

  • A lorry driver suffered a cardiac arrest on the M25 near J12 at Egham and died at the scene, with the anti-clockwise carriageway closed for about an hour before reopening to long delays.
  • Fire crews extinguished a lorry tractor-unit blaze on the M4 eastbound between J15 and Membury Services, after which two lanes reopened and the scene was handed to police and National Highways.
  • A six-vehicle collision involving five cars and a van closed a lane on the M25 clockwise near Chertsey on Monday morning, causing long queues reported back towards Leatherhead and Reigate.
  • Three separate crashes near J20 at Watford on Sunday involved nine vehicles and shut the M25 anti-clockwise for hours, with only minor injuries reported as traffic was diverted.
  • The M5 northbound between J27 and J26 in Devon remained shut on Monday morning after planned roadworks overran due to tarmac not setting, with a signed diversion in place.
