M25 Chaos Continues as Overturned Lorry Shuts Surrey Section and Triggers Long Delays

National Highways expects an hours‑long closure for complex recovery between Junctions 10 and 9, with drivers sent onto a signed diversion.

Overview

  • All four anti‑clockwise lanes between J10 (Cobham) and J9 (Leatherhead) are closed after a lorry overturned, with an official Hollow Square diversion in place via the A3, A240, A24 and A217 to rejoin at J8.
  • Delays of around an hour are building with queues of six to eight miles back to J11 and heavy traffic on local roads through Byfleet, Cobham, Oxshott and Chessington.
  • South East Coast Ambulance Service said crews assessed and treated two male drivers at the scene, while Surrey Police reported a collision involving a car and a lorry.
  • National Highways and police advise motorists to follow diversion signage, plan ahead, allow significant extra journey time and consider rerouting or delaying travel.
  • The latest closure follows two separate major incidents on Wednesday: an M25 vehicle fire and collision between J29 and J28 that caused eight miles of congestion and about 80‑minute delays after reopening, and a serious lorry crash in the Holmesdale Tunnel that shut the clockwise side for hours as two people were taken to hospital by road and air ambulance.
