Lush Shuts All UK Stores, Website and Factories for a Day Over Gaza

The company says the pause is meant to pressure the UK government over Gaza policy.

Overview

  • More than 100 UK locations closed, e-commerce was taken offline and factories paused for 24 hours, with trading due to resume on 4 September.
  • Shop windows displayed the message “Stop starving Gaza — we are closed in solidarity.”
  • Lush urged ministers to take stronger action on the humanitarian crisis, including ending UK arms sales to Israel, and noted forfeiting a day of tax contributions.
  • The Watermelon Slice fundraising soap will return, with proceeds directed to medical care, prosthetic limb services and child mental-health support for people in Gaza and the West Bank.
  • Co-founder Mark Constantine estimated the shutdown would cost around £300,000, and the company indicated other Lush territories may consider similar actions.
