Lurie Children’s Launches Cal’s Angels Advanced Leukemia Program With $4 Million Gift

The effort links local researchers with national trial consortia to speed access to advanced leukemia care close to home.

Overview

  • A ribbon-cutting this week marked the debut of Chicago’s first dedicated advanced leukemia center, one of only six in the United States.
  • The $4 million donation from Cal’s Angels is supplemented by about $1 million raised by Lurie Children’s to support care for children, adolescents and young adults.
  • Researchers at the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine will collaborate on studies underpinning the program.
  • Lurie will offer early-phase trials and participate in networks such as the Children’s Oncology Group and the Pediatric Early Phase Clinical Trials Network to widen access to novel therapies.
  • Program director Dr. Jenna Rossoff said the initiative expands treatment options at Lurie and aims to reduce financial strain for families who previously traveled for high-risk care.
