Lurcher Alvin Adopted After Two-and-a-Half Years in RSPCA Care

Legal restrictions delayed rehoming until a Preston branch listing led an adopter to him.

Overview

  • The six-year-old lurcher cross was rescued in May 2022 from a West Midlands property with untreated hunting injuries.
  • He received long-term care at the RSPCA’s Warrington, Halton & St Helens branch but was not eligible for rehoming until February 2024 after his former owner signed him over following a disqualification.
  • Despite multiple public appeals, he attracted little interest and was transferred about 30 miles to the Preston & District branch to improve his chances.
  • Alan, who lives near Preston, spotted his profile on the branch website and adopted him in December 2025.
  • Alvin still has leg scarring and is progressing through training to ease fears around other dogs, with staff calling his send-off a highlight of the year.
