Luminar Partners with Mercedes-Benz, Unveils Automatic Emergency Steering

Lidar manufacturer Luminar announces collaboration with Mercedes-Benz for F1 safety car and introduces an automatic emergency steering feature powered by its Iris Plus sensor.

  • Luminar, the lidar manufacturer, has announced a collaboration with Mercedes-Benz to incorporate its Iris lidar on the F1 safety car.
  • Luminar's Iris lidar has been used in the RisingAuto R7 from SAIC in China, with over 7,000 units sold. The company's first large scale program is expected to launch in spring 2024 with the Volvo EX90.
  • Luminar has also completed its first production run of sensors at a plant in Monterrey, Mexico, essential for meeting customer expectations.
  • In addition to volume production vehicles, Luminar is working with automated trucking companies, including Torc Robotics, Gatik, and Kodiak Robotics.
  • Luminar has unveiled an automatic emergency steering (AES) feature powered by its Iris Plus sensor, designed to proactively avoid crashes without driver intervention.
