LUMHS Hostel Death Probed After Medical Student Found With Pistol

Overview

• Abdullah Soomro, a fourth-year MBBS student at Bilawal Bhutto Medical College, was found dead in room 144 of LUMHS’s Ibn-e-Sina Boys’ Hostel in Jamshoro.
• Hostel residents reported loud music followed by a gunshot, and police said the door was locked from the inside when they arrived.
• A pistol was recovered at the scene, and authorities plan to ask the deputy commissioner to verify whether it was licensed and in the student’s name.
• SSP Zafar Siddique Changa said police recorded statements from residents, staff and faculty, and a forensic team collected samples from the room.
• The body was handed to his brother and moved to Jacobabad, as reporting also noted a separate suspected suicide of 20-year-old Manu Bheel in Tando Allahyar and recalled a similar 2019 hostel shooting that raised concerns about firearms on campus.
