Luka Dončić Leads Lakers Off Court With Porsche Outing as Preseason Reps Lag

JJ Redick and players say the Porsche session boosted camaraderie, with LeBron James sidelined for weeks by sciatica.

Overview

  • After Tuesday’s practice, Dončić organized and paid for a Porsche Driving Experience in El Segundo where teammates tested multiple models, an event teammates and coaches framed as a chemistry builder.
  • Deandre Ayton, Gabe Vincent and JJ Redick praised the gesture, with Ayton calling it a first for him and Redick joking that he wasn’t invited because it was a players-only outing.
  • Dončić and James did not play in the Lakers’ first two preseason games as the team manages workload and recovery following Dončić’s EuroBasket summer.
  • Ayton said he has not yet been on court with both stars together; Redick clarified Ayton got a couple of sessions with Dončić last week and no one has practiced with James yet.
  • Newsweek reported James is expected to miss several weeks with a glute nerve issue, and on the Mind the Game podcast he lauded Dončić’s offseason conditioning and weight loss.
