Lufthansa Pilots Call Two-Day Strike for Monday and Tuesday

The walkout underscores a deepening pay-and-pension dispute at Germany's flag carrier following a cabin-crew strike that wiped out most flights.

Overview

  • Vereinigung Cockpit, which set the walkout for Monday and Tuesday, said the action will cover Lufthansa, Lufthansa CityLine, Eurowings and Lufthansa Cargo flights.
  • The union called the strike over pension and pay disputes, and union president Andreas Pinheiro said management showed no "tangible willingness" to reach a deal.
  • Flights from Germany to a list of Middle East and nearby countries, including Israel, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are excluded because of the current regional situation.
  • VC said it remains open to talks and that management can avert the stoppage by tabling negotiable offers.
  • The pilots' move follows Friday's cabin-crew walkout by the UFO union, which it said canceled about 90% of flights at Lufthansa and CityLine, and comes less than a month after a March 12–13 pilots' strike.
