Lufthansa Group Makes Travel ID Mandatory for Online Check‑In

The change moves web and app check‑in behind a single group account so passengers must register before they can access boarding passes online.

Overview

  • Since November 2 many travelers trying to check in via website or app at Lufthansa Group carriers are being routed to sign in or create a Travel ID rather than using only booking details.
  • The requirement covers Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Edelweiss and Discover Airlines when using the group’s web or mobile check‑in, while Eurowings and ITA Airways are not affected.
  • Passengers who decline to register can still use airport check‑in counters or self‑service kiosks and several ticket types are exempt, including group bookings and some package or charter trips.
  • Creating a Travel ID requires basic identity details, an email confirmation and a password, and the account can optionally store payment information and travel documents while Miles & More membership remains voluntary.
  • The rollout is staged with Munich and Zurich and transatlantic departures due November 16 and Frankfurt plus remaining regions set for November 30, so last‑minute online check‑in may require prior account creation and airlines say they will notify affected passengers by email and on check‑in pages.
