Lucy Letby Questioned in Prison Over Additional Baby Deaths

The convicted serial killer nurse was interviewed under caution as police expand their investigation into baby deaths and collapses at two hospitals.

Lucy Letby, already serving a whole-life sentence for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder eight others, was interviewed in prison by Cheshire Police regarding additional baby deaths and collapses at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Police are reviewing the care of 4,000 babies treated at the two hospitals during Letby’s tenure, focusing on cases deemed medically concerning.
The Thirlwall public inquiry has heard testimony suggesting Letby’s harmful actions may have begun earlier than previously identified, with suspicious incidents reported during her training placements at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Letby’s legal team confirmed she voluntarily attended the interview under caution, maintaining her innocence, and no new charges have been filed as of yet.
The ongoing inquiry has also revealed systemic failures at the Countess of Chester Hospital, including delayed police involvement and missed opportunities to act on concerns raised by consultants.
