Lucid Electric Vehicles to Access Tesla's Superchargers Starting 2025, Adopts North American Charging Standard

Lucid EVs addition to Tesla's Supercharging network comes as Ford and other automakers make similar announcements, marking an industry-wide embrace of the North American Charging Standards, even as charging times may be slower than marketed due to voltage differences in the chargers.

  • Lucid will allow their electric vehicles to access over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America starting in 2025, joining a growing list of companies pledging to support the North American Charging Standard (NACS).
  • Lucid's current vehicles, equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS), will be given a NACS adapter in 2025. The company also plans to build NACS ports into its EVs from that year so that newer models no longer need adapters.
  • Ford was the first automaker this year to announce customer access to Superchargers, followed by Mercedes, Volvo, Polestar, Honda, Toyota (and Lexus), BMW, Hyundai, and Subaru, indicating an industry-wide adoption of the NACS.
  • Lucid's vehicles use a 900-volt charging architecture, but most Superchargers are currently rated at around 500 volts, which may lead to slower charging times than advertised. However, Tesla has started deploying V4 Superchargers offering higher voltage charging in the US.
  • Lucid's decision to adopt NACS aims to expand access to reliable and convenient charging solutions for its customers, even if it sacrifices quicker charging times for now.
