Luas Green Line to Restart From 6 p.m. After Safety-System Power Fault

Engineers traced the outage to a 48-volt safety circuit that prevented safe re-energising of the line.

Overview

  • Transdev said Green Line services will operate from Brides Glen to Broombridge from 6 p.m. with 15-minute frequencies until 12:30 a.m.
  • The fault was identified in a low-voltage 48-volt safety system, not the overhead traction power that drives the trams.
  • Because the fail-safe circuit was detecting a fault condition, power could not be restored until engineers resolved it.
  • Technicians worked overnight across substations, inspected 12 sites, and narrowed the issue to the area between Broombridge and O’Connell Street.
  • The Red Line is running normally, Luas tickets are being accepted on Dublin Bus, and earlier disruption contributed to heavy traffic including delays near Dublin Port.
