L&T Hands Over First Tejas Mk-1A Wing Assemblies to HAL in Private-Sector Breakthrough

The handover underscores HAL’s deepening public-private partnerships in supply-chain diversification to scale indigenous Tejas Mk-1A production.

Overview

  • HAL received the first set of wing assemblies for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-1A from L&T in Coimbatore, marking the programme’s inaugural private-sector wing delivery.
  • The LCA Tejas Division has integrated structural modules from Lakshmi Machine Works, Alpha Tocol, Amphenol, Tata Advanced Systems, VEM Technologies and now L&T.
  • L&T will supply four wing sets annually and aims to increase output to twelve per year through advanced assembly processes and automation.
  • HAL has established a parallel aircraft structural assembly line with private-sector suppliers to augment capacity and advance India’s Aatmanirbharta goal.
  • The Tejas Mk-1A is being procured under a Rs 48,000 crore deal for 83 jets, with talks underway for an additional Rs 67,000 crore order for 97 more aircraft to replace the IAF’s MiG-21 fleet.
