L&T and ITOCHU Sign Deal for 300 KTPA Green Ammonia Plant in Gujarat

The partnership secures ammonia offtake for Singapore’s marine bunkering, with equipment contracts set to deliver a demonstration vessel by 2027.

Overview

  • L&T Energy GreenTech and ITOCHU Corporation have entered a joint development agreement to build and commercialise a 300 KTPA green ammonia facility at Kandla in Gujarat.
  • ITOCHU will offtake the plant’s output to supply low-carbon ammonia for maritime bunkering operations in Singapore.
  • The Japanese trading house has contracted Sasaki Shipbuilding for a 5,000 cbm ammonia bunkering vessel and Izumi Steel Works for an onboard tank plant scheduled for 2027 delivery.
  • The project supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to reach at least 5 MMTPA of green hydrogen derivatives by 2030 with over $100 billion in investments.
  • Key preparatory steps—including securing financing, obtaining permits, finalising engineering designs and sourcing renewable power—are yet to be completed before construction begins.
