Overview

• The blast occurred around 4 p.m. on August 7 at a scrap and welding shop near Visakhapatnam’s fishing harbour when a commercial LPG cylinder leaked and detonated.
• Three workers died at the scene or soon after and three others remain in critical condition at King George Hospital with severe burn injuries.
• One-Town police have registered an accidental death case and are probing the cylinder leak to determine lapses in safety and equipment maintenance.
• Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi, MLA Vamsikrishna Srinivas and Collector Harindhira Prasad visited the site and hospital to coordinate rescue efforts and ensure government support.
• Former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief over the fatalities and urged the state government to secure high-quality medical care for the injured and aid for the victims’ families.
