Loyola Chicago to Honor Sister Jean With Season-Long Jersey Patch

The program says the visible tribute will carry the beloved chaplain’s influence forward after her death earlier this month at 106.

Overview

  • The Ramblers will wear a gold circular patch featuring Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt’s likeness on the upper-right shoulder throughout the 2025–26 season.
  • Loyola announced the tribute on Oct. 29 via its men’s basketball social media account with the message, “Our biggest fan will be with us all season long.”
  • The patch will debut at Monday’s season opener at home against Cleveland State.
  • Head coach Drew Valentine said her memories and energy will live on with the program through this season and into the future.
  • Sister Jean joined Loyola in 1991, became part of the men’s team in the mid-1990s, rose to national prominence during the 2018 Final Four run, stepped back in August for health reasons, and died on Oct. 9.
