Overview
- RMC Chennai issued orange alerts for Sunday in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts and the Karaikal area, with very heavy rain of up to 12–20 cm possible.
- Heavy rain warnings also cover Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Villupuram, with very heavy rain forecast on Monday for Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Puducherry.
- Chennai and Tiruvallur are forecast to see light to moderate rain on Sunday and a spell of heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday as the system spreads north along the coast.
- The IMD says an upper-air cyclonic circulation developed into a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lankan coast, reviving the Northeast monsoon with widespread showers through at least November 19.
- The Tamil Nadu government directed districts to take precautions and advised fishermen to stay off the Gulf of Mannar and Kanniyakumari seas due to squally winds of 35–45 km/h, gusting to 55 km/h, as stations like Tiruchendur (8 cm) and Mandapam (7 cm) reported early rain.
