Low-Level Nighttime Light Linked to Heart Remodeling in Large UK Study
Researchers say the changes could raise long-term heart risk and that shorter sleep explains part of the effect.

- Participants exposed to roughly more than 3 lux of night light — about moonlight or a dim phone glow — showed thickening of the left ventricular wall and reduced heart-muscle flexibility, with some changes also seen in other chambers.
- Authors estimated that 24 to 49 percent of the observed heart changes could be explained by shorter sleep (under five or six hours) caused by night light, and they described the remodeling as an adaptive change that can weaken the heart over time.
