Louisville River Search Halted Again After Submerged Car Found Empty

Dangerous currents have delayed recovery operations, officials say.

Overview

  • LMPD responded around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after a tugboat reported a vehicle drove off the downtown Louisville waterfront near Joe's Crab Shack.
  • The River Unit located a submerged car about 9 p.m., and no occupant was found inside.
  • Crews suspended the search Saturday night because of fast currents, and river traffic that was stopped during the operation later reopened.
  • Plans to resume on Sunday were scaled back when the River Unit and Dive Team determined conditions were still too dangerous to continue.
  • Investigators have not established whether the vehicle entered the river accidentally or intentionally.
