Louisiana Sets Weekly State-Funded SNAP Payouts, Furloughs 786 Staff

The plan uses state dollars to maintain November assistance for households that include children, seniors or people with disabilities during the federal shutdown.

Overview

  • Starting Nov. 1, LDH will issue 25% of each eligible household’s monthly benefit on its normal date, then 25% every seven days through November if the shutdown continues.
  • Households composed only of able-bodied adults will not receive the state-funded emergency assistance.
  • Eligible recipients do not need to apply for the emergency payments, but they must continue meeting program requirements to preserve federal SNAP eligibility.
  • Any unused benefits from previous months remain on recipients’ EBT cards and can be used as usual.
  • LDH says 786 SNAP employees are furloughed effective Monday, Nov. 3, with 298 designated essential and continuing to work until the shutdown ends.
