Overview

• On August 6, ICE and Border Patrol agents used two Penske moving trucks as decoys outside the Home Depot on Wilshire Boulevard in a DHS-named “Operación Caballo de Troya,” detaining 16 migrant workers
• Migrant-rights organizations have organized daily vigils at Home Depot and McArthur Park and launched a community strike with boycott calls targeting Home Depot, Walmart, Target, McDonald’s and other outlets
• The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office opened investigations into potential constitutional and civil-rights violations arising from federal immigration enforcement in retail parking lots
• Since mid-July, federal courts in California have barred detentions based on race, language or location, but ICE operations have continued as DHS appeals those injunctions to higher courts
• DHS reported about 1,400 regional detentions last month and the White House says ICE arrested more than 300,000 undocumented migrants in six months amid congressional funding to expand ICE staffing and detention capacity
