Lorry Driver Jailed for Smuggling Albanian Woman and Child in Cab

He is due to be deported after serving a four-year term imposed following his guilty plea for facilitating illegal immigration.

Overview

  • Recorder Andrew Smith sentenced Dawid Flis to four years’ imprisonment on July 23 for concealing an Albanian woman and her six-year-old child in his HGV cab.
  • Flis transported the pair from the Hook of Holland after the woman paid €12,500 toward a €25,000 fee for clandestine passage to the UK.
  • Border Force and National Crime Agency officers uncovered the migrants during a search when Flis’s lorry arrived at the Port of Killingholme on March 23.
  • One man arrested in the same operation has been extradited to Italy and a second suspect remains on bail as the NCA continues its investigation.
  • The National Crime Agency emphasises disrupting organised immigration crime via freight routes and maintains cooperation with international partners to target people-smuggling networks.
